A bunch of new stuff!
I’ve been updatting Twitter a lot more lately than the blog, mainly because most updates don’t warrant a full posting. If you have a Twitter account you can follow forumwarz for more frequent updates. Actually, even if you don’t have Twitter you can just subscribe to the RSS feed there and you’ll get all our updates. Here’s some stuff you might have missed:
New Hardware
The site has been pretty laggy lately. We decided to finally do something about it and ordered 3 brand new servers, all of which are faster than our current server. They’re currently being set up by our hosting company and hopefully we’ll be able to switch over pretty soon.
There will be some downtime as we switch over. This is a pretty major change so it might take the larger part of a day to switch over, but it should be worth it for the performance we’ll gain.
Tubmail Updates
I’ve pushed out some early upgrades to Tubmail, which should help if you have many messages in your inbox. It’s now paginated, and you get much more screen real estate to view the list of messages.
ItemBuildr Results
We’ve published a few ItemBuildr items already. You should check out the ItemBuildr section of the site and the store to see the awesome stuff our users have come up with.
What’s next?
Over the next little while I’ll be putting out many little enhancements to existing parts of the site such as Tubmail and Flamebate. If you’ve been part of the community for a while I’m sure you’ll be glad to have some of the new tools we plan to build.
We’re starting to work out a schedule for Episode 3 development, too. It’s a long way away, but we’re getting ready to get the ball rolling on that one too.
Forumwarz on Twitter
When our site went down for half a day to move to the new server (a time I’ll call “Black Wednesday”), Evil Trout started up an already abandoned Twitter account so that we’d have a reliable source of information during this dark, dark time.
Although I initially mocked him for it, I now realize just how effective this microblogging service can be, especially when things are moving as rapidly as they are now.
So, check out our new Group Twitter account at twitter.com/forumwarz. We’ll still put major or long-term announcements on our blog, and we’ll still use special notifications on your Forumwarz homepage where appropriate. Of course, we’ll also keep using IDC and Flamebate to communicate with you guys.
But rapid announcements about updates, known bugs, small feature pushes, masturbatory play-by-play and other miscellany will start showing up on our Twitter feed, so be sure to subscribe to it if you’re a Forumwarz junkie! Note that you don’t need an account to follow it, just a browser and maybe an RSS reader.

Almost… there!
So here we are, just 3 days away from the launch of Forumwarz Episode 2.
I was saying to Jalapeno Bootyhole today on instant messenger that it feels really weird. I remember months ago that it used to stress me out just thinking about when we’d finish all this work. I told myself that if I put in the hours, that I was bound to get closer to the finish line, even though day to day it didn’t feel like we were getting any closer.
But now, all the content is written, all the graphics and audio is in place. It’s been tested and tuned. I am actually still tuning it — I think I will right up until launch day. I’m nervous about it because I’m a nervous person in general, but my gut feeling is that you guys are going to love the new content. It’s a lot of fun to play, and there are plenty of laughs to be had! I just hope that if there are any hiccups over the first few days when I open the floodgates that you guys will be forgiving 🙂
While I’m on that note, thanks guys! Forumwarz wouldn’t be sustainable without all your generous brownie point purchases. Pre-orders so far have been great. Thanks so much for supporting us through thick and thin! I know at times it got a little boring without new content to play through, but the wait is almost over!
Twitter Feed
While the site is down on Wednesday, there will be no blog or forums for updates. Someone convinced me recently to sign up for a Twitter account even though I said I would never do it, but it might come in useful during this outage since I’ll have nowhere else reputable to put updates. Check out http://twitter.com/evil_trout for the odd update during the upgrade to Episode 2!
