Site Updates - Feb 24

Did a large overhaul of the battle code. It should fix a lot of bugs that previously messed up your battles. Also, a new and awesome feature is the ability to refresh the battle without losing your progress! If you receive any kind of error during battle, it will pop up a little link in the bottom right that allows you to refresh the page. There’s now a warning on the Wiki that vandalism won’t be tolerated. Also, we added the option to revert to older versions of pages. ...

Site Updates - Feb 23

We installed some more RAM and the server seems to be running a lot more smoothly. Thanks for your patience during our growing pains. The E-Peen(tm) for Sweet Sixteen should now be working properly. Also I think I sorted out any bugs related to pistachio scoops in Forumwarz domination. Unfortunately Sweet 16 is not retro-active, so if you already did 16 different forums in a row you won’t be rewarded appropriately :( ...

We were bound to get correspondence like this!

I’m not sure if it’s hate-mail, strictly speaking, but the following item fell into my inbox yesterday and it certainly criticizes us, even if it’s not exactly “hate.” Listen up…I just spent the last 47 minutes perambulating your creational, almost funny internet diversion. Now factoring in the fact that I have a nagging case of adult ADD, it became quite clear that I would rather be outside…in the fresh air or eating extender bugers in Latvia or any where else except trying to claw my way around Forumwarz…I respectfully submit that you boys(I doubt there are that many actual women involved)take your dubious technological talent and apply it elsewhere where it will do some actual good and improve your battered self-esteem… Come on!I know you can do it! ...

More Press Coverage

Yesterday, waxy.org, a.k.a Andy Baio called our game “supremely brilliant” in his link blog. Today, Wired’s Blog picked up the story from Waxy, and wrote up a fantastic article about us. Here’s an excerpt: Definitely not a site for the easily offended (in fact you have to type the sentence “I am not easily offended” to enter the site) or those with any sensitivity really, but pretty funny for the rest of us. At least until you head over to YouTube, read some comments and realize that the fictitious world of Forumwarz is all too parallel to the real web. ...

Feb 21 - Site Updates

Added new E-Peen(tm)! You’ll get some for pwning 16, 20 and 24 forums in a row, although there are currently only 19 forums. We like to think ahead :) There’s also new E-Peen(tm) for our Friends of Forumwarz. I’d like to interrupt these site updates to thank all the people who have bought our brownie point packages to help support Forumwarz. We seriously appreciate it :) The introduction has been altered very slightly for those who are pissed off at receiving Jimmy the Re-Re as their class and avatar. If they try to bail we now explicitly tell them that they will be able to pick their own class eventually. ...

Forumwarz on the Web

Today we were fortunate enough to be linked to on Metafilter, in the aptly titled entry “GTFO noob”. We also got an awesome mention on the IndieGames.com blog.

Feb 20 - Site Updates

The big change today is that you no longer need to be someone’s friend to Tubmail them. We think it was overly restrictive, and prevented people from just sending tubmail to others asking to be in their Klans or one off questions. Additionally, there is now a link on a Klan page that says “Hey, want to join this klan? Tubmail us” that links directly to the Klan admin. Due to popular demand, I put the “Bury” threshold back down to -5 votes in ForumBuildr V2.0 Beta. We’ll see how this goes for a little while. ...

The Irony was not lost on us

While I was generating some reports this afternoon, I noticed a bunch of people were visiting us from 711chan. 711chan, for those who aren’t aware, is one of the *chans, in other words the sites that run the same flavor of software and interface as 4chan but have slightly different rules. One of the popular forums on 711chan is /i/, or Insurgency. The idea is to organize “invasions” of other web sites, like Habbo Hotel. ...

Write up about Forumwarz in Digital Journal

We got a nice write in Digital Journal about Forumwarz. Here’s a snippet: Developed by Toronto-based Crotch Zombie Productions, this online game about online culture is a needle in a haystack of role-playing games about the same-old themes. But Forumwarz differentiates itself by mocking stereotypical comment hounds, giving a satirical twist to inserting quick phrases into threads. And a warning to anyone easily offended: This site is designed for a mature audience and it holds nothing back. ...

Welcome to our official blog!

Forumwarz has been out of Beta for just over a week now, and we’ve had some terrific growth. We’ve tripled our user base, and daily activity is often 10 times what it was before. I was running a thread in our official forums with our site updates, but it was a little buried and difficult to keep on top of. The goal of this blog is to keep our players updated on new advances in Forumwarz, as well as discuss things related to Forumwarz on the web and our adventures in indie-game development. It will also replace that old and nasty thread. ...
